All MHS dogs have been spayed or neutered (age and health permitting), vaccinated, and given a microchip. Adoption fees are shown in each dog's profile. If you wish to know more about a pet please contact their foster parent directly as per the information in the pet's profile. If you are unable to reach the foster parent after several tries then please call our main line at 905-271-0883 and leave a message.
Sometimes people ask which pets are hardest to find adoptive homes for. They are the older dogs and the larger dogs. The pets at the bottom of this page are those who have been with us the longest.

Moe Moe - I am a 10 year old poodle pekinese X, male.
Sadly I have to look for another home at this age because the little girl of my previous family had severe allergies. I was very sad the first couple of nights in my foster home ; but I am still hopeful that there will be another loving home where I can spend the rest of my life. My foster mom says that I am a very good boy and that I am very well trained! I know how to sit, stay, lie down and I even know how to shake a paw!! She also says that I walk very well on a leash as well. I get along well with children and also cats. ( Actually cats are of no interest to me. Most of the time I just ignore them.) Although I like living with my foster parents I would love to have a forever home. So if you would like to have a sweet, loving and quiet companion like me in your life then I would love to meet you! Please contact foster parent Leah, at 905-277-4153 or email at leahstrocen@hotmail.com.( PLEASE type MOE MOE in the subject line). ADOPTION FEE: $128.

Jewel - I am a 10 year old Golden Retriever.
I had stayed in a shelter for more than a year before MHS came to my resuce. Despite my tought past, I have a very sweet personality. My Foster parents will tell you I behave more like a 6 year old. I am good with kids and dogs and cats. For my age I am in good health; My hips are in perfect shape for a dog of my size and age, no arthritis or hip dysplasia, but my muscles in my back legs need building up. I don't do well on stairs and prefer a home with carpeting. Daily walks will help build the muscles in my legs. I will make a great family pet" For more info please contact my Foster dady Richard 416.894.0917 or email: richard@aimit.ca ADOPTION FEE: $158.

I'm a sweet and affectionate girl that acts younger than my age! and looks! . A good natured soul with an excellent temperament, leads me to get along well with the people, dogs & cats in Mom Sue's home. I walk nicely on a leash, & know my commands for sit, down & go lie down. I enjoy my walks through the neighbourhood, & love to greet people. My tail wags constantly! My Mom & Dad separated, & I ended up at the pound. Now I'm at Mom Sue's looking for another family to baby-sit! I'm great with young kids too, & would love a family to snuggle up with. Pepito (Courtesy listing, do not call MHS) - I am a Terrier X., 10 months old.
He is a comical little guy. His eyes are so bright and they shine with intelligence. He weighs about 22 pounds and would make a great addition to a loving family. We don't really know his history. He was lost and brought to a rural shelter. No one came to claim him and he was rescued just hours before euthanization. Someone had cared for him though, because he was in very good health - not underweight and he seems to have been well socialized. He is a very friendly dog, playful and affectionate. He is housebroken and he sleeps in a crate at night. Pepito loves toys of any kind. He needs some basic training but we are working on that and he is a very willing pupil and loves treats. He is neutered and his vaccinations are up to date. Heart worm tested negative. Please email northernpassage17@yahoo.ca for an application.

Milo - I am a purebred Chow Chow, 10-11 yrs old, 54 lbs.
I have been a one-owner dog since birth, but my owner had to move to an apartment where dogs weren’t allowed. Don’t let my age fool you; I am a very healthy, happy and active fellow! I am really shy at first and it will take me a few days to warm up to you, but once I do, I like lots of love and attention and I especially love to be brushed! I am loving and gentle, and I know all my basic commands; I have very good manners and I never ever get up on the furniture! I also have some really cute ‘tricks’, and I am well behaved on the leash. I just love going for walks! I get along well with other dogs and cats too. My foster parents say I am very handsome and funny, and I will make a wonderful addition to a forever home.” Please contact fsoter parent Alicia 905-919-1593 or email aarcand@rogers.com. Louis - I am a husky, male, about 2 yrs old.
Heres a bio by my foster parent: "Louis is a young dog who will make a great addition to an active household. Despite a hard start in life, he is extremely friendly and well-tempered with everyone. There is no dog or person who doesn't get along with Louis! He has a great personality but needs some training classes to learn his commands properly. He is an active dog and should not be left alone for long periods (over 6 hours/day). He is great with other dogs and children but does not get along with cats. Louis loves the off-leash park and long walks and behaves well on a leash. Unlike many huskies, Louis loves to curl up with his humans - he adores being around people. He is a good dog and has the potential to be a great family pet, but will require some discipline and lots of time and love." Please email foster parent caitlin.blundell@gmail.com. Heres a bio by my foster mom: "Teddy is a very handsome dog who is in good shape. He is a very sweet and loving dog who loves staying with his people all the time. We think he is good with kids too. Teddy enjoys his daily long walks; keeping squirrels out of his way or just sitting/lying down and admiring the nature. Sammy - I am a miniature poodle, 2 1/2 year old, just 12 lbs!
Here is a bio by my foster parent: "Sammy is a loving animal. He is very playful, mixes well with other dogs, does not chase after squirrels or cats, and is very friendly with other humans. Sammy needs a home with a stay-at-home owner as he craves attention . He would not be suitable for apartment living. He would do well in an active household with young children." He does love to cuddle up to you and enjoys his walks I give him. Riggs needs a special diet to prevent formation of stones, as he had bladder stones developed in the past. . As long as hes on the diet it would prevent the stones from coming back. He is in good health right now . Riggs is a very special loving dog and needs a special loving person to take care of him. Sandy - I am a Dachshund/Labrador retriever mix, male, about 3 yrs old, approxi 40 lbs.
Heres a bio by my foster parent: "Sandy is very affectionate and loving with his “human pack” and gets along well with all members of our family. He is a unique looking dog with the face and body of a retriever and the legs of a dachshund. We think Sandy came from an abusive home and was not socialized as a youngster. Due to this, he has a fear aggression that needs to be corrected. He has been working very hard on his fears and is coming along very well. Someone with dog experience who understands dog “psychology” would be best for this intelligent dog as he needs someone to show him proper behaviour. He has adapted very well to family home life, but would be best suited in a home with no small children or large dogs as he shows fear to both. He really loves to be part of the pack, so it would be best if he were not left alone for long periods of time. He is house-trained with a low-average energy level." For more information, please contact Sophia at Sophia@macfab.ca. ADOPTION FEE: $200.

Misty - I am a Yellow Labrador X, 5-6 yrs old.
Heres a bio by my foster parent: "Misty is a sweet girl; she is intelligent and smart. She knows her sit, stay, down basic commands. she probably knows more than she lets on. However, she needs direction and guidance - an experienced handler, (especially on leash) is required. She is gentle, affectionate and wants to please, but not sure how. She will follow you around like a curious puppy. She gets along with other dogs. She would do well in a house with a backyard to run around in. She should go to a home without small kids" Please contact Winston 905 286 4597. ADOPTION FEE: $198.

Tommy - I am a beagle, about 7 yrs old.
Heres a bio by my foster parent: "Tommy is a very loving Beagle. He is 7 years old, but you would never be able to tell his age because he acts like he is 1 or 2 years old. . Contrary to his breed, he very rarely barks. He loves people and other dogs, but cannot go to a home with cats or small animals. He knows his basic commands and is housetrained. He loves attention, and he just loves to be around people, so he should go to a home where he wont be left alone for long hours. He will make a great family dog." Chloe - I am a stunning Chocolate Labrador, female, about 1 yr old.
Heres a bio by my foster parent: "Chloe is well behaved at home but does need a fair amount of exercise as she has a ton of energy and loves to play. She likes to play with young dogs that have the ability to keep up with her. Chloe would be best suited for an experienced dog owner, preferably with no young children. She loves to give kisses and cuddle once she has warmed up to you and you have shown her affection and love(+treats). Chloe needs to go to a family that has a lot of patience as she still needs some obedience training." Please contact Krystle 647-401-8938 or email rumfordk@gmail.com. ADOPTION FEE: $200.

Dutchess and Princess - two beagles, about 7 years old, female.
Our foster parent says we are the most adorable girls she's ever come by! We are sisters who were surrendered due to our owner's financial hardship. At 7 years young, we definitely come with our perks. Don't let the age fool ya, we are playful, affectionate, and such young girls at heart! We are fairly low maintenance dogs who absolutely LOVE people. Our favourite pastimes are following people around, cuddling with them, and going for walks. Being beagles we love people and affection, are very friendly and social. Our foster parent loves that we are house trained and behave great in the house and in the car. Princess tugs a bit when walking on leash but is being trained now and showing much improvement!
We have been together all our lives and are really attached to each other. We are great company for each other. We like to sleep, cuddle, hang out, and clean each other (especially when our owners are out). We love each other so much and really hope we can get adopted together. Our foster parent thinks we would do well in a forever home with a fenced-in yard, and an experienced owner is preferred.
If you are looking for two dogs with sweet dispositions who love to hang out, we are the perfect dogs for you! We have big hearts and ask for nothing but love in return.
For more info please contact our foster mom Pauline at 647-200-2980 or email Pauline000@hotmail.com.

I am Willow (aka Sheila), a 7- or 8-year-old female Hound mix.
Here is a bio by my foster mom:  "Willow is a beautiful girl who has been waiting far too long for her forever home.  She is very sweet, affectionate and a lot of fun to have around!  She would suit a family that has dog experience as she likes to try and be in charge, but if she knows you are boss she's happy with that too.  She is good with dogs she knows, but would love to be the only dog in her home or live with another somewhat quiet dog.  She is good with cats and children (would do best with older children) and well behaved in the house. She's the perfect age, past all the silly rambunctious puppy stuff but still has enough energy to play throughout the day and curl up with you in the evenings.  More pictures of Willow can be seen in her very own album:

Bea (aka Daisy) • female • Beagle/Hound (Mix) • 8 years
I am a Beagle/Hound mix, about 7 years young, weighing 55 lbs. Here's a bio by my foster mom: "I have had Bea since mid-January. She has come a long way in terms of feeling more secure and settled after being in several homes and shelters since being found in August 2008. She is a great dog; intelligent, quiet, clean and has learned new tricks and good behaviours quite easily. She walks well – on a “loose leash” most of the time. She has no problems with joggers, bikes, skateboards, strollers or noisy kids playing. She doesn’t chase squirrels or rabbits. She has a great time at the dog park, makes new friends easily but is quite happy to go off on her own and explore the scents. She loves to be outside in any weather and benefits from long and/or frequent walks. She is ok being left at home, but would rather be with people. We have a great time walking the hiking trails with my daughter and her dog. Bea lives by her nose more than most dogs (she is a hound!) and would be an excellent candidate for recreational tracking dog. Her musical hound bark gets a lot of attention when she is excited! Bea needs a strong leader who will provide the guidance she is looking for in dealing with uncertain situations. I have been successful in dealing with early food and toy guarding, to the point where it is no longer an issue. She has even learned to get along with the cat (he had to learn as well) and they now have a respectful relationship. I have no doubt that Bea would be fine in a home with a cat or dog already in residence, as long as the human in charge has control over them" For more information please contact MarionH: (905) 820-5018 or email km_vernon@hotmail.com. Adoption fee: $158.

I got my name (Star in Spanish) as I have a beautiful white star on my chest. I am very energetic and playful, and get excited easily. I get along with most dogs and love to go on walks.
