Did you know?
MHS is a registered charity run totally by volunteers. It does not have a shelter, business venue or paid staff. Almost every penny raised goes directly to the animal rescue work.
Over the last 10 years MHS has rescued a total of close to 3,300 homeless animals.
In 2008 MHS rescued a total of 700 homeless dogs and cats and found adoptive homes for 546.
Without a shelter MHS depends solely on the kindness of foster parents who open their heart and home to animals in need.
All rescued animals are spayed or neutered (age and health permitting), vaccinated and given a microchip prior to adoption.
MHS is NOT the "animal shelter". That is a completely unrelated organization - Mississauga Animal Services, which is run by the city.

Welcome to the new Mississauga Humane Society web site!
Please check back regularly as it continues to grow.
Founded in 1999, Mississauga Humane Society is a non-profit, legally registered charity dedicated to the rescue of HOMELESS COMPANION ANIMALS. We are 100% VOLUNTEER-RUN and rely on public DONATIONS for funding with no support from the SPCA/City/Government. Since we do not have a facility or shelter, we operate through a network of foster homes and volunteers.
OUR MISSION
We strive to save as many unwanted animals as possible regardless of background, age, health and/or behavioural issues. Our goal is to find each of our rescued animals a FOREVER HOME where they are treated as a family member.
FOSTER HOMES MEAN EVERYTHING
Throughout this site you will see pleas for volunteer foster homes. As we do not have a shelter, most of our animals live in foster homes until their forever home is found. The number of homes available to the cats and dogs in our care determine how many homeless pets we can assist. We are always in desperate need of foster homes for rescued dogs and cats so we do not have to turn any away for lack of space. We provide the food and veterinary care, and you provide the love. If you would like to help us, please contact us.
